Weather rules
Weather rules are used to create scenarios that incorporate:
- Air temperature
- Precipitation
- Cloud cover
This lets you display specific content items in playlists only when predefined conditions are met.
Use case example
Suppose there is a “Drinks” playlist in a coffee shop network.
The playlist contains two files:
- Hot Drinks
- Cold Drinks
In warm weather, cold drinks become more relevant to customers than hot ones, and vice versa.
To automatically hide irrelevant content, you’d need to create two scenarios: “Cold Weather” and “Warm Weather”.
Set the display rule to temperature below 22°C for “Cold Weather” and temperature above 22°C for “Warm Weather”.
Assign the “Warm Weather” scenario to the “Hot Drinks” file and the “Cold Weather” scenario to the “Cold Drinks” file in the playlist.
The screens will now display only one of the two drink categories based on the current weather conditions.
Recommendations
Weather rules rely on the coordinates of the location associated with each screen.
Before implementing weather rules, make sure that accurate geographic coordinates are specified in screen locations.
Locations without coordinates default to Moscow’s geographic data.
Air temperature
The Air Temperature rule lets you configure content displays based on the current temperature.
Available conditions:
- Greater: uses a
greater than or equal tocheck to display content when the temperature meets or exceeds the specified value. - Less: uses a
less thancheck to display content when the temperature is strictly below the specified value. - Equal: uses an
equal tocheck to display content only at the specified temperature.
To define a temperature range, apply two rules simultaneously by setting both upper and lower temperature limits.
Precipitation
The Precipitation rule is used to display content based on the precipitation type.
Available conditions:
- Light rain
- Rain
- Sleet
- Snow
- Heavy snow
- Storm
Cloud cover
The Cloud Cover rule is used to display content based on how much of the sky is covered by clouds/thunderclouds, which may affect the amount of light getting through, as well as how likely it is to snow or rain.
Available conditions:
- Clear
- Partly cloudy
- Cloudy
Weather classification
When creating temperature-based rules, you may follow our recommended settings:
Hot weather
28°C or higher. Typical for summer months in warm climates.
Warm weather
Comfortable temperatures between 22–27°C.
Cool weather
15–21°C. Characteristic of spring/fall with mild chill.
Cold weather
0–14°C. At this temperature, it will already feel cold, so people will need warm clothes to be comfortable, especially at the lower end of the temperature range.
Freezing weather
Below 0°C. This is winter weather, so there might be snow and ice. People need winter clothes to stay warm.
