Recommendations for videos and images
General guidelines
There is no technical reason for you to upload content with resolution higher than your screen’s native resolution, as displays have physical limits beyond which differences become imperceptible to the human eye.
To prevent content distortion, always use or create images and videos matching your display’s aspect ratio.
Content with a mismatched aspect ratio can stretch or compress, which results in its distortion.
Resolution
Where feasible, use images and videos with resolutions of up to Full HD (1920×1080 pixels).
This provides optimal quality for most use cases.
In practice, the difference between UHD (4K) and Full HD is often indistinguishable to viewers at typical viewing distances.
While higher-resolution files consume significantly more storage space and increase loading and processing times, Full HD provides good image quality and efficient performance in terms of resources.
Using Full HD or lower resolutions prevents device overload, as most modern media players, displays, and TVs process these files efficiently.
This ensures smoother system operation, improves performance, and enhances user experience.
Maximum content resolution
Our service currently supports Android devices only. For optimal performance, content resolution is capped at:
- 3840×2160 for landscape orientation
- 2160×3840 for portrait orientation
Android device limitations
Android devices support content resolutions of up to 3840×2160 (landscape) or 2160×3840 (portrait), equivalent to 4K UHD TVs and displays.
Images
High-resolution images may significantly overload devices, causing playback delays and degraded system performance.
Therefore, use images with resolution equal to (or lower than) your screen’s native resolution for optimal performance.
Recommendations
- Use images that match your screen’s native resolution
Find the appropriate content resolution for each screen on the screen’s details page in the Content Resolution section.
- Monitor image file sizes so that they are not too large
Supported image formats
- JPEG
- PNG
Videos
The key parameters to focus on are video format and bitrate.
If playback freezes, reduce video resolution and/or bitrate.
Video format requirements
- Supported codecs: H.264
- Supported container formats: MPEG-4 (.mp4)
H.265 codec support varies by device hardware capabilities.
Bitrate requirements
| Resolution | Dimensions (pixels) | Target bitrate (kbit/s) |
|---|---|---|
| SD | 720×480 or 480×720 | 1500 - 2500 |
| HD | 1280×720 or 720×1280 | 2500 - 5000 |
| Full HD | 1920×1080 or 1080×1920 | 5000 - 8000 |
| 2K | 2048×1080 or 1080×2048 | 8000 - 12000 |
| UHD (4K) | 3840×2160 or 2160×3840 | 15000 - 25000 |
Recommended video duration
- 15 seconds or longer
Videos shorter than 15 seconds can cause black frames to pop up between videos, and may even freeze underpowered devices.
